WHAT HAPPENS FIRST? Before we carry out any treatments, a consultation with our qualified practitioner is necessary. Here we will take a full medical history, assess your skin's condition and discuss your aesthetic goals. Having gathered all this valuable information, we will then have a better understanding of which treatment you need to achieve the best outcome.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID? Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body, often referred to as our “natural moisturizer.” It plays a vital role in maintaining skin hydration, plumpness, and elasticity. When we’re born, our skin is rich in hyaluronic acid, which is why baby skin appears smooth, firm, and radiant. However, as we age, our body’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid gradually decreases, contributing to the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of skin volume. This decrease is one of the main reasons why skin loses its youthful fullness and texture over time. One of the most unique and beneficial properties of hyaluronic acid is its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, helping to hydrate and plump the skin. While some cosmeceutical products and treatments can provide temporary improvement, the most popular and effective way to restore lost hyaluronic acid is through injectable treatments.
WHY IS PROFHILO TREATMENT DIFFERENT TO DERMAL FILLER? Both treatments can complement each other, but they are best suited for different aesthetic goals. Profhilo is ideal for those looking to improve skin texture and hydration without altering facial volume, while fillers are better for targeting specific volume loss and creating facial contours.
IS THERE ANY DOWN TIME OR SIDE EFFECTS WITH PROFHILO? We always advise there may be a bump at the injection sites for up to 24 hours after, as this is the time it takes for the product to be absorbed. With any injection there is a small risk of post-treatment bruising or swelling at injection points however, since we inject so superficially this is minimal. You may find that if you are having your neck treated, the bumps can last a little longer due to the skin being thinner.
WHERE DO YOU INJECT? There are specific points to inject to follow the protocol for Profhilo. Not all clinicians will practice in this way however this is what is recommended by Profhilo manufacturers and is known to be most effective. This is known as the 5-point BAP technique for the cheeks and jawline and 10-point BAP technique for the neck.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO HAVE PROFHILO TREATMENT? The typical treatment protocol for Profhilo involves: Initial treatment: Two sessions, usually spaced 4 weeks apart. This allows the hyaluronic acid to integrate into the skin and deliver its hydrating and rejuvenating benefits. Maintenance: After the initial two sessions, the general recommendation is to have one session every 6 months to maintain the results. This can vary depending on individual needs, skin condition, and desired outcomes.
